Zinc anode

An anode / zinc anode is maintenance-free (until it needs to be replaced) and is there to prevent corrosion damage (rust) to the steel buoy, anchorage or other base metal. An anode / zinc anode is also called a sacrificial anode. For example, it protects the steel buoy because it oxidizes earlier than the metals you want to protect. An anode usually consists of zinc.
